Honestly... this is the best barbecue I've tasted. It tops Franklin's Barbecue in Austin, TX for me even when I've lived in Austin for 10 years. The brisket, pork belly, chorizo sausage, beef ribs, pork ribs, Tri tip, and pulled pork all excellent. It isn't overly salted and it doesn't feel like fat dripping everywhere. It's a great balance! Nothing disappointed! The service is excellent, in and out within minutes. Ambiance, not much more to say here, it's clean with coverage from the sun! If you miss Texas, this is the place to go. It brings me a little nostalgia when I'm homesick. I feel at home here. It's amazing and truly phenomenal barbecue.

Heritage Barbecue is a superb eatery across the street from the San Juan Capistrano Mission. The festive mood of the place compliments the architecture of the expansive venue, with a festive atmosphere permeating the entire time. Its model is to order and pay, then sit down or take out, and if one decides to sit, the service brings the food to the table. Drinks are offered within the premises at the bar which has a most wonderful selection of beers and wines. The food is amazing. We had street corn on the cob, a huge chicken taco with pulled chicken, a pulled pork sandwich, all of which came with several sauces, and then we washed it down with a Session Hazy IPA. Their brews are local and they are absolutely fantastic. A wonderful dining experience.

Stop by on a recommendation from a bartender at a brewery down the street. First of all if you're expecting to get pork belly get there early it's limited and delicious. Great smoked meats and very kind and knowledgeable staff.

Hot fire flames, WOW. I wish we had ordered extra to take home. The pickled veggies were crunchy, tangy, sweet, fresh - chefs kiss. The downside is the long wait. We came here on Mothers Day afternoon and the line was the shortest we had ever seen it. It wrapped around the corner before reaching the outdoor seating. It took us about an hour from beginning to getting our food. We were in line so long we became friends with the woman in front of us and had deep conversation about her immigration experience and became Facebook friends haha. There was only one cashier. I wonder how long the wait is when the line wraps around the the bbq pits. Outdoor seating. Picnic tables so be ready to sit with strangers and make friends. Will I come back? YEA! I wish I had some right now. Wow.

We were in Austin about 6 months ago, and I can safely say that Heritage is just as good, if not better, than some of the BBQ places we visited on our trip! Our visit was on a Wednesday, we got there 15 minutes before opening and were probably 10th in line. By the time we were done paying, the line was down the street. Definitely worth getting here early! Seating is also limited, i'm glad we were there in time to get a shaded table. Parking is easy, either park in the free lot off Verdugo, or the parking structure next to the movie theater. My husband and I ordered a TON of food and took a lot home. We were also with three other family members, who ordered different items than us, so we were able to try a good majority of their menu. I was bummed they didn't have turkey the day we visited, hoping they do next time we go. My favorite meats were the Italian Sausage, Char Sui Pork Belly, and Tri-Tip. I really liked their mustard sauce on everything. Sides were all amazing, my favorites were the Creole Potato Salad and Spicy Pickled Cucumbers, they reminded me of kimchi. We split a Banana Bread Pudding with the table, everybody loved it and I think we cleaned the plate. We had quite a bit of meat leftover, so we brought it all home and ate it for lunch the next day, still great reheated. And those pickles got WAY spicier over night, super tasty though! I definitely want to come back, and I will definitely take off another weekday to do that. I can't imagine how insane it is here on the weekend!

Very long lines form on weekends here, and also knowing it was in the Michelin guide I figured it had to be good. Along with all the great writeups. So my expectations were very high. We went on a Wednesday morning at 11 am just on opening and the line was only about 15 minutes long. So it behooves you to get here early. Easy to order as they have the menu board out on the sidewalk, so by the time you approach the friendly gal (or guy) at the checkout, you should have your order ready to go. They punch it in for you, give you a number if you're staying, and bark out the order to the cooks inside. Once seated, our order was out in less than 5 minutes. So maybe a long line, but little wait once you get seated. We went in for the pulled pork sandwich, the brisket sandwich, a side of Texas Chili (no beans), and a side of potato salad. In order or deliciousness, the pulled pork was by far the winner, followed by the brisket. The pickles and pickled red onion were good, but I would have liked more and it would be nice if they had extra bbq sauce available. Not as flavorful as I was hoping for. Potato salad was tasty, and the chili was kind of meh-not enough seasoning and only a very mild kick, which of course would have been better highlighted with better seasoning. Just kind of plain, so I would not order that side again. I think it's pretty easy to please with good barbeque, and Heritage does a good job with quick service, tasty and generous portions, and a really nice outdoor setup in beautiful SJC. You can also order beer at the same location, and they have a nice selection on tap. A great casual spot for good barbeque and worth coming back to.

If you come here on a weekend, be prepared for a long wait! Come early - long wait, come later in the afternoon - risk missing out on some tasty meats. Our wait ended up being about 2 hours after arriving at 11:30am on a Sunday. It's a great sign that the food is good if the wait is this long. You can grab a few drinks at the bar and have them with you while waiting in line. We ordered the beef rib, beef brisket, sausage link, Mac and cheese, jalapeño cheese cornbread, and potato salad. Everything tasted amazing, but the star of the meal has to be the beef rib! It quite literally fell off the bone. Everything was amazing and would definitely recommend! Lots of tables, but kinda close to each-other. The staff was really friendly and attentive. A fantastic experience overall (minus the long wait times).

Always make time to stop at heritage bbq. They recently remodeled a little of the outside and moved some of the smokers. There's plenty of seating outside and this place always has a line. It moves pretty quickly. Parking is out in the street but the walk is always worth it! Tritip and brisket are our favorites! You can't go wrong with any sides! Always have a hard time getting out of this place without spending over $200!! As you can see, you get a ton of food for the money!

My boyfriend and I ordered online to pick up at 4 pm since some of the meats were already sold out by early afternoon. There is no hostess or pick up area; we just asked the person with a clipboard near the counter. We got a number and sat at one of the tables for 15 minutes even though we got there exactly at 4 pm. There is only outdoor seating, and it is first come first serve. Parking is street and a rear lot where you can cut onto the main road. We ordered a pound of brisket ($37), a pound of pork spare ribs ($33), and a large mac and cheese ($18). One thing I noticed is that ordering online is $1 more for the meat plus a 9% convenience fee. A little annoyed of the convenience fee; if we knew, we would have just ordered at the restaurant since we were already waiting. We already thought the prices were a little expensive, and on top of a connivence fee, we were like bruh. The line also wasn't that long, so dining in late afternoon/early dinner wouldn't be too long of a wait. The meats were insane! Half the brisket slices were more lean yet still tender while the other half were so fatty and juicy. The spare ribs were my favorite, again so tender and juicy. I loved the cartilage, especially that it's been cooked for a while and softened. There was barbecue sauce that was sweet, mustard sauce that was tangy, so they worked really well together; I would dip in the barbecue first then mustard. Pickles, pickled onions, and pickled jalapeños were a nice acidic kick. The mac and cheese was pretty good and standard. I liked the spiral shape and consistency of the sauce but needed more breadcrumbs for extra crunch and salt. Overall, heritage meats are very delicious. Probably one of the best brisket and pork ribs I've tried. Mac and cheese were average, but sauces were great. We'd definitely go again to dine in and to try the other items.
